Ph. D. position at Bayerisches Geoinstitut, Bayreuth

Bayerisches Geoinstitut in Bayreuth invites applications for a Ph. D. position in experimental geochemistry. The position is funded for three years (salary grade E13, 75 %). The successful applicant is expected to investigate the properties of aqueous fluids in subduction zones by high-pressure experiments. The main focus of the thesis would be on investigating the stability of organic molecules in such fluids, but other properties of subduction zone fluids may also be studied. Experiments would be caried out both ex-situ in piston cylinder presses and in-situ in hydrothermal diamond anvil cells, using Raman spectroscopy and GC-mass spectrometry as main analytical tools. Results from a preliminary study related to this project may be found here :

Applicants should hold a M. Sc. or comparable degree in Earth sciences, preferably with specialization in geochemistry or mineralogy. Previous experience in high-pressure experimentation is not required. Applications with CV and copies of university certificates should be sent via email to hans.keppler@uni-bayreuth.de until August 31, 2022.
